No, Mastodon is an open, federated & decentralised Twitter replacement for when you reach the point when what you read on Twitter in the morning makes you puke/throw phone/computer at the wall!

I'm in there (mainly on https://mastodon.social/)and have to say it's much nicer with moar cats and geeks (and Japanese people!).

Whether Diaspora will ever replace FB remains to be seen but it's had 10 odd years to happen and hasn't so far...

Fact remains, for all it's evils, where else can you find all your old mates hanging out online in once convenient place? 

Perhaps what we need is to each have out own personal free and open "Facebooks" (Diaspora/WordPress whatever) we host ourselves (we're pretty much at the point where this is easily do-able for many of us using prebuilt stacks using Docker etc) then federate between 'ourselves' to suit our personal needs. 

"But how will we cover the hosting costs"? I hear you say....
