Travelling to Switzerland for an Assisted Suicide. This is the subject of a public meeting on Saturday, December 1st, at 6.30 pm, at the Conway Hall, 25 Red Lion Square, London, WC1.
The speaker will be Ludwig Minelli, the founder and present director of Dignitas, the Swiss organization in Zurich which has, in recent years, provided an assisted suicide for about 80 terminally-ill or very severely-disabled Britons. The audience will be limited to 100, and admission is by ticket (£5) only. This meeting is being organized by Friends At The End (the Scottish-based right-to-die society) and also by the Secular Medical Forum. The co-ordinator of the Forum, Michael Irwin, will chair the meeting.   'No Command but their Conscience': Secularism and Freethought history event at Bishopsgate Library. Day-long event on Saturday 8 December 2007 to explore the history of freethought and secularism in the nineteenth century, including those who led it and how it became an important force in the politics of Victorian Britain. Items from the Charles Bradlaugh and George Jacob Holyoake collections will be on display as part of the day.
The speakers for day are:
David Nash: "Improving the here and now and Damn the hereafter" – secularist campaigns against religious privilege, imperialism and the war machine 
Deborah Lavin: Rogue Brother, Rogue Comrade: "The importance of being Dr Edward Aveling" 
Laura Schwartz: Infidel Feminism: "Feminism in the 19th Century Freethought Movement"
