I think the problem with this kind of gig is that it is unclear what
its purpose was.

Was it

a) A Matida event that we _all_ wanted to happen either for
entertainment or as a financial benefit fundraiser

or

b) Simply an event that only _some_ Matida folk wanted because they
liked the acts and why not use the space for that.

I came along late and had to pay to get in which defined me as punter.
This did not give me an inclination to help out. Why should I pay to
work at an event when I don't even know where the money is going to?

This is very different to the No Borders event because the money was
going to two things I supported - Matilda and No Borders.

A lot of work has gone into the gig space so I guess obvious that more
events in catagory b) are intended. What seems key is what happens to
money raised at such events.

If all proceeds go to Matilda or some other agreed campaign etc. then
it's in all our interest to help out. If not then we have to ask what
are we doing this for?

Should folk from the Matida collective get in free always, sometimes,
when working, or never?
