On the form that is being produced for people to fill in if they want to
put events on there will be a part on that form for the event organiser to
tell us what the estimated overall cost of the event will be, how many
people they are expecting to turn up and the price for entry (if there is
any). It was agreed that for the next few months people putting on gigs
would not fill in that part of the form.
The reason that i think that the people organising events at matilda
should fill in that part of the form are:
-by telling us the estimated overall cost of the event we can guarantee
that unsustainably expensive events that put matilda at a financial risk
will not be allowed to happen.
-It is important for us to know the amount of people likely to turn up for
security reasons, so that we know how many people we are going to need
looking after the gate.
-For me, knowing how much money the organiser wants to charge people for
getting into the event is a matter of accessibility, the higher the charge
the more likely someone who doesnt have very much money will be excluded
from the event.
In my opinion when someone comes to a monday meeting to propose an event
like a gig or party if i dont know how much the event will cost, the
amount of people that are likely to turn up and how much the are charging
then i dont think that i will be able to make an informed decision on
whether i am happy that the event is suitable for matilda to host. I
personally think that matilda, because it is run by volunteers is very
different from the vast majority of music venues. For example: I would
not be happy voluneering my time for nothing in order to put on a greenday
gig or any other big commercial band for that matter.
