[matilda] Info Booklets for a better understanding of Matilda

Hi

Regards to this posting found on another forum (fowarded to the hacklab
list, see full text below) these lines reveal something, a mis-perception,
which is far wider than hack-lab slating:

-'but I was submitting it with a 'public' computer (I do not have an
internet connection yet at home) at the supposedly egalitarian 'Matilda
Building' (Squatted by a 'collective' for want of a better word) opposite
the former Matilda Gay bar on Matilda St.'

-'I was happily writing away when the only sitting tenant in the place, who
has taken into his
mind that he practically owns the building (Which he does not) gave me
precisely 90 seconds
warning that he was having to leave the building.'

It hints at the reality that we need to supply a bit more information to new
people using the space, now that it's name is getting known. This coming
Monday meeting, which I shall co-facillitate with L, will get to the core of
the things we need to communicate about this space to people who haven't
been with us from the start + get some things clarified for the rest of us
too. I envision a folded A4 booklet (a bit like the one we had for G8 info,
the one with the timeline on the back) which:

A)Puts the social centre into the general context of social centres and
autonomous spaces- inc. very short history of them and about others in the
UK

B)A more personal collective reflection of what Matilda is about (a series
of sentences and pictures from different members of the Matilda collective
which encapsulate, for them, what it's all about)

C) A statement on LTT's position (with text like that on the posters on the
door)

D)Stuff that's happened here before (inc. G8 stuff) and what we have planned
for the future

CLARIFICATION: these aren't flyers though, we don't need flyers as such.
They are mainly to be kept in the building for new people to pick up and
read, though we can take them to actions and demos, and perhaps distrubute a
few in what I would consider to be our allies (Blue Moon, Rare and Racy, New
Roots etc...)

Of course, a public-face website over the top of our existing Wiki will also
be a good thing, and is probably much more resource friendly too. But
nevertheless I think paper-based info is still important as well:

Some of the money we get from the October fundraiser, if it happens, (see
poster on wall in Matilda) could be put into printing costs.

Anyhow, I hope everyone will be able to make the meeting on Monday- I plan
some group discussions + brainstorming.

B
