ART(ISTS) AND THE PUBLIC REALM – DISCUSSION EVENT
FRIDAY 21 APRIL: 2–4.30pm
PERSISTENCE WORKS, MEETING ROOM*

***ONLY A FEW PLACES LEFT***

Yorkshire ArtSpace are hosting an informal discussion event focussing on
the role of art(ists) in the Public Realm. They would like to invite an
audience of visual artists and other professionals with an interest in
Sheffield’s regeneration and area development to join our panel of
speakers.

The panel members are: Claire Morgan, artist in residence at Persistence
Works, James Arnold, Team Leader of Urban Design at Sheffield City
Council and Matt Hearn, project manager at Locus +, art(ists)
commissioning organisation based in Newcastle.

Claire will introduce the audience to her work and talk about the ideas
and work developed during her residency at Yorkshire ArtSpace. Matt
Hearn will talk about his organisation and some of the exciting artists
and projects commissioned over the last 13 years by Locus+. James Arnold
has kindly agreed talk about the role Public Art plays within the
regeneration of Sheffield, the City Council’s Public Art Strategy and %
for art scheme. The audience will be encouraged to contribute to a
discussion about the role ‘public art’ can play within the city and for
the citizens of Sheffield.

‘Locus+ … perceives the prospect of having to secure different sites,
with a different set of audiences, and a different set of
contextualising factors, as an opportunity to constantly redefine those
elements that are integral to a project in a qualitative manner, rather
than just ticking off the boxes that justify access to the public purse’
Jon Bewley, Director Locus +
