worldwarfree> Yes i agree it is an abuse of consensus for me to block
worldwarfree> but i feel that the event talked about will not be of
worldwarfree> benafit to Matilda..

BENEFIT 1

Well it has the potential to make quite a bit of money from donations
which we'll need soon enough for bills and continued maintenance of
the building.

BENEFIT 2

It will also open up the space to more and hopefully different people.
Remember this is not simply an open event to which anyone can come to.
It is invites only aimed at artists and Matildarites and friends.
Maybe some of those will want to get involved in Matilda stuff after
the event. The building is still massively underused.

BENEFIT 3

It will make use of the new gallery space which has to be a good
thing. More people etc.

Such benefits have to be weighed against any potential risks and care
taken to minimize such risks. At some point it would be good to figure
out exactly what these are.

You sound like you want a blanket curfew of anyone being in building
after midnight. Yet in reality there are events that go on all the
time without problems. The Thursday socials sometimes go on late. The
event on Saturday went on till 1.30ish without problem. We've had
several all night parties in general without any major problems at
all.

Yeah on a couple of occasions the cops came in which was unfortunate
but I don't think with hindsight anyone would suggest that those
events were completely spoiled by these uninvited guests or that
things would have been better if those events hadn't have happened.

In general the police in SHeffield are very tolerant of such parties
especially when compared to places like Manchester or Brighton.
Outdoor parties are rarely busted here and neither are squat parties.
Their main concern is with people's safety. And compared to every
squatted party venue I've ever been to Matilda is a very safe venue
indeed.

They've been in, looked around, let us carry on and not come back.
That should be seen for what it is: a very positive sign.
