Asylum rally to support threatened families
http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/news/boltonnews/display.var.1335864.0.asylum_rally_to_support_threatened_families.php

No Amnesty, No Regularization!!!
Rumours have been flying around about a new amnesty/regularization, none
of it sourced. Inaccurate information gives persons seeking asylum,
irregular migrants seeking status, false hope.
There is also much confusion over 'Legacy cases' and this is pretty much
the fault of the Home Office for not providing clear and accurate
information on the issue.
More from ILPA Legacy cases info sheet.

"will deal with all Legacy cases by June 2011"

ILPA immigration update 1 (5 March 07)
However, the Home Office estimate that
currently there may be as many as 450,000
asylum-seekers in the UK, whose situation
remains unresolved – in other words, they
have not departed the UK or been granted
settled status.
NAM will not deal with these cases. They
are referred to as Legacy cases. A new
directorate will deal with them; and the
Home Office have said it will deal with all
Legacy cases by June 2011. More
information on Legacy will shortly be
available in a separate information sheet.

[07] Australia/US draconian Human cargo
----------

Australia's draconian new immigration policy undermines its commitment
to the UN's refugee convention.
But Prime Minister John Howard's latest policy twist is truly
despicable: he plans to "swap" would-be refugees held in the country's
illegal offshore detention centres, with Cuban and Haitian detainees the
US is holding in Guantánamo Bay. People are to be treated as chattel,
shipped halfway across the world at the whim of a desperately unpopular
politician who will seemingly go to any lengths to bolster his chances
of re-election later this year. The first asylum-seekers to be exchanged
are likely to be the 83 Sri Lankans and eight Burmese held on the
Pacific island of Nauru

[10] Fundamental rights, fundamental flaws, and the expulsion of
     migrants from the EU

damning critique of crucial EU proposals on suspects' rights in
cross-border criminal proceedings, data protection in the area of
police and judicial cooperation, and the expulsion of migrants from
the EU. Four detailed Statewatch analyses of the draft EU measures
show the extent to which powerful member states are driving down
standards of human rights protection in the creation of the so-called
EU "Area of Freedom, Security and Justice". Two of these measures -
suspects' rights and data protection - will be discussed by the Member
States at this week's Justice and Home Affairs Council (19-20 April 2007).
