The situation here is pretty much such: the candidates
from the current government (The 
Russian-backed up ones) will try to do pretty much
anything to keep themselves in power. 
The reason is simple: most of them should be in jail
right now otherwise and will be 
there should the pro-Western candidate win, for plenty
of years. I'm not sure to what 
extent they'll go, but unfortunately, most of
what is happening is happening in intrigue 
behind the scenes. What goes on visibly is the invalid
election, and re-selection of 
candidates. But who will be participating is still;
uncertain - this is what is being 
decided behind the scenes now. What is needed, as far
as I understand, is for the pro-Western candidate to
win outright. fenex forwarded me the E-mail 
you sent to the general list. There is no faction
supporting outright revolution, since the country's 
practically been split in two - Western and Eastern.
Should the Eastern part win, Russia 
is going to get a pawn that won't be pleasant for the
rest of the world. Ukraine is huge 
on resources in food and people, and a very nice
jumping point for a lot of places. Putin 
getting all that under his hand would be unpleasant,
to say the least. I'm going to try 
to find out some behind-the-scenes info from a couple
of journalist acquaintances of mine 
to see what could be done specifically. Do you want
any specific information on the situation, or just a
general overview of what has been happening so 
far?

My info on the 'Revolutionary faction' was some
statements made by anarchists in a squat in Kiev and
some politicos carying Red and Black flags (including
a university Prof). One guy called himself a 'joint
leader' of anti Russian Orange group but said he
didn't support the West. It may be these are a small
faction, or that news of them isn't being spread in
Ukraine?

All I know is Democracy is not the answer and normally
in situations like this I'd support the take over of
government buildings using minimal force, however in
this geographic situation it does seem a civil war
might be triggered by this.
