Hi everyone

There will be a Students Against Sweatshops protest at the Disney store on Oxford Street (it's near Bond Street tube) on Saturday 22nd October.

Disney uses sweatshops to produce clothes, toys and other merchandise. Pay and conditions are of course terrible - Vietnamese workers earn 8 cents an hour, for up to 112 hours a week working. Overtime is compulsory and union activity is crushed.

They've also been heavily implicated in child labour - they even admit using 14 year olds. A claim that this does not constitute child labour is particularly laughable given their idealised image of a company which cares about kids.

The police in countries where it has sweatshops are of course heavily involved in suppressing the workers' discontent against the corporation.

So, as you can see, there's plenty of ammunition with which we can attack Disney. We'll be meeting at 11am at Bond Street tube station. Please bring any Disney costumes etc. you may have, so we can take the piss out of their family-friendly image...

Hope to see you there - please get in touch if you have any questions
David
