Dear Colleagues

WANTED: LOCAL COMPANIES FOR VOLUNTEER PLACEMENTS FOR REFUGEE PROFESSIONALS

The Refugee New Arrivals Project in Sheffield is looking for local companies
who would be interested in hosting short-term volunteer work placements for
refugees who have reasonable English and are qualified and experienced in a
variety of professions. DO YOU OR ANYONE YOU KNOW HAVE ANY CONTACTS WHICH
COULD HELP?

We are currently looking to place people in the fields of: IT; accountancy;
civil engineering/ construction; electrical engineering; aviation
management/consultancy; and veterinary science. However, we are building up
a database of local companies and are keen to hear from ANY companies
(preferably Sheffield or Rotherham-based but other parts of South Yorks
considered) potentially interested in participating in the scheme.

Companies are likely to be interested for a number of reasons, including:
-	because they are sympathetic to refugees needs
-	because they are committed to or interested in encouraging a more diverse
workforce
-	because they are experiencing skills shortages and difficulties in filling
vacancies and may be interested in ‘trying out’ people who are already
skilled/experienced
-	because they find it difficult to retain motivated, ‘loyal’ employees

Often the best ‘way in’ is via a recommendation - so please take a few
minutes to have a think if there is anyone you are in contact with who works
for a local company that might be interested. The neighbour down the road
who is partner in an IT firm? The auntie who’s a vet? The friend of a
friend who works at Doncaster airport?
..etc!!

Please feel free to circulate this email to relevant
networks/individuals/companies etc.

For further information, or to register interest in hosting a volunteer
placement, please contact myself or James Kazadi using the contact details
at the end of this message.

Thank you for your time.
