Dear Colleagues

WANTED: ENGINEERS WILLING TO HELP RUN A SUPPORT GROUP FOR REFUGEE ENGINEERS

The Refugee New Arrivals Project in Sheffield is looking for people from an
engineering background (either recently retired or currently working in the
field) who would be interested in helping to run a support group, on a
voluntary basis, for refugee engineers. The group will probably meet
monthly, in the evenings.

We are particularly keen to hear from civil engineers but are also in
contact with electrical, environmental and mechanical engineers so would
also welcome approaches from potential volunteers in these fields, too.

The aim of the group is to offer support, activities and information
relevant to the various branches of engineering (eg use of invited speakers;
visits to workplaces; help with job applications; providing a forum to share
and discuss experiences of those on placements; building up a small
collection of resources such as professional journals etc). We already
facilitate a Refugee Teachers’ Support Group and expect the engineers’ group
to develop along similar lines - although the specific programme of
activities will depend on the interests and needs of the participants.

Please feel free to circulate this email to relevant networks/individuals or
anyone you know who might be able to help.

For further information, or to register interest in helping run the group,
please contact myself or James Kazadi using the contact details at the end
of this message.

Thank you for your time.
