> SewGreen adds art supply reuse program
>
> Success with reuse of sewing supplies has led Ithaca’s SewGreen store to add another category of materials for reuse: art supplies. SewGreen is now accepting donations of unwanted drawing and painting media, such as heavy paper, canvas, stretchers, acrylic and oil paints, pastels, and other leftover supplies typically used by artists and art students. Proceeds from resale of materials will support youth apprenticeships and jobs for teens.
>
> “We have set up a separate retail space that connects The Art and Found, which recently moved from The Ithaca Commons, with SewGreen,” says SewGreen director Wendy Skinner. “An art supply reuse program complements both entities.”
>
> SewGreen is a not-for-profit program that diverts more than 125 tons of materials from the landfill annually. SewGreen’s resale store features fabric, yarn, and sewing supplies. SewGreen recently welcomed the Art and Found, a sustainable clothing store owned by Olivia Royale, as a next door neighbor.
>
> Donated art supplies can be dropped off at the SewGreen store, 112 N Cayuga Street, in downtown Ithaca. Supplies must be clean and usable. House paint and hazardous materials, such as petroleum-based solvents, will not be accepted. A phone call or email in advance of donations is recommended, says Skinner. Anyone with questions may contact the store at 607-319-4106 or reuse at sewgreen.org.
