Hello,
I'm emailing to tell you about the upcoming CCE Compost Fair.
This spring’s *Compost Fair will take place on Sunday, April 23, from
12-4pm*. Sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension, and in conjunction
with the 4-H Duck Race, the family-friendly event will feature games,
crafts, prizes, compost science demonstrations, and music provided by Rot
‘n Roll. Anyone who is interested in turning kitchen food scraps into rich
compost is encouraged to stop by.
Master Composters will be on hand to troubleshoot and help composters of
all experience levels improve their technique. Attendees are encouraged to
tour demonstrations of indoor vermiculture (worm) bins and Japanese Bokashi
composting methods. They can also learn how to use ‘lasagna’ layering to
mix an effective balance of ingredients in outdoor bins. Soil testing will
be available for any participants who want to bring in a sample of their
home garden soil or compost and test its pH.
The Compost Fair is an opportunity for people of all ages to learn
something new about the art and science of home composting.
Community partners include Master Gardeners, Rural Youth Services, the
CCETC (bicycle powered!) Energy Program, Primitive Pursuits, Tompkins
County Recycling and Materials Management, and the Cornell Nature Society.
Compost Fair organizers are grateful for generous support from local
businesses who are donating prizes. Many thanks to Yoga Farm, Mighty Yoga,
Get Your Green Back, Paleontological Research Center, Levene Gouldin &
Thompson LLP, Home Green Home, Autumn Leaves Books, One World Market, and
The Watershed.
We hope to see you and your family there to experience the joy and learn
about the sustainability of compost! *Please pass this information along to
