[Ssf] US missiles might be coming to Yorkshire

An excerpt from a bit of writing I did before the Iraq Ware:

"The UK government, in the past week, has decided to let the US use the
Fylingdales radar station (not too far north of Sheffield) as a key part of
this system [NMD]. This is despite the fact that, only a month ago, Geoff Hoon
published a report on NMD that offered "above all to provide a foundation for a
deeper debate of the issues concerned." The Commons defence committee is due to
complete a report into missile defence in a month's time. So: our government is
unwilling to wait for a committee report from its own parliament, it makes
noises about democratic consultation, but then does exactly as the US wants.
This one issue starkly reveals the nature of the relationship between the UK
and US administrations. Is this how it will be in Iraq?"

Er... yup!

p.s. the report - a 'public discussion paper':
http://www.mod.uk/issues/cooperation/missile_defence/intro.htm

What an absolute f**king sham.

love

Dan
