Hey up,

Sorry- non-list-relevant, but I thought I'd write anyway!

I was having a conversation last night about the possibility of being 
drafted, if the Middle East continues to nose-dive. It seems like such 
an impossible idea: it's easy to forget that it's happened repeatedly 
throughout history, and our parents were just one lucky generation who 
managed to miss it!

In the States -

"Just recently a frightened Congress voted down a bill calling for a 
draft. (After all, they need to get re-elected in a few weeks.) But the 
way they rejected the bill showed just how easy calling a draft would 
be—they suspended normal rules and voted with almost no warning. 
Authorizing a draft would be just as easy—it could be done in less than 
48 hours...." Howard Dean

On the news this morning, we hear that

a) The Americans are getting ready to Assault Falluja - to quote, 
they're going to 'whup' them. Of course, this won't happen before Tuesday.

b) We've just seen a post saying that the Lancet estimates 100,000 have 
been killed.

If Bush gets in, he's not looking for re-election...
