Like he said: he is using it from work (where he probably *needs*
Outlook for other purposes)

It is most likely springnight that is not configured correctly to allow
SSL connections, since the problem also exists in Thunderbird on Ubuntu.

TLS connections are fine.

Any one should be able to check their email from anywhere with whatever
they want - not quite sure what you're saying here?

There is another misconfiguration? which causes email sent from the web
interface to appear as coming from burngreave.net and not
lists.aktivix.org (as I think Scott pointed out recently), which makes
emails sent from the webinterface a right pain in the arse for those
replying to all (who gets an error message or "mail cannot be delivered).
