Hi all, a few things about the 'other regions' discussion (after reading the emails sent and the log from last nite irc meeting):

-I'm not personally worried about having a page just for the sake of it, is not about having 'our own' little page, but about giving visibility to those towns, cities, etc without a regional IMC

- I understand the problem of maintaining such a page (with not clear group attached to it), I will definitly be willing to put the work on it, but don't have tech knowledge.

- some people argued on the irc meeting that 'other regions' make not sense at all. I don't agree with this. While I can see the objections in term of practicalities, and maybe another one would be that maybe just there aren't that many 'homeless' places (dunno) to make this work, I don't think that it doesn't make sense. If I'm in Plymouth and I want to look at what has happened here and I look at the sections list (lancs, manch, london, etc...) of course I wouldn't pick any of those (would not expect liverpool or london to report a demo in plymouth in their local page) , if there was an 'other regions' there is were I would expect actions in Plymouth to be reported, there is where I'd go ( the same if I was going to post somth. of local nature). During the stopthewar campaign people asked me why there weren't news about our actions here (side comment-- many people is not aware they can publish themselves, they kept asking me to put this or that up, and when I said they could do it themselves it was news for them--maybe 'publish' function needs to be made more clear??) , I said there were news, I posted them, but of course it was so fast-pace that in hours they weren't on newswire anymore and there wasn't any page where people could go to look at all the stuff happening locally.

-Now that a 'south west' list has been created and it will bring together people from Plymouth, Exter, Tauton, cornwall etc..., we probably will eventually create our own page. But still, what about others? Are there other people in different areas 'homeless' in terms of a place for 'local' stuff? Maybe there aren't any, I don't know. Maybe I was in a peculiar situation and I assumed many others are as well, but maybe they aren't, dunno.

-well, that's how I saw it, but maybe i'm wrong, and my main reason to think that I might be wrong is that this hasn't come up before in uk IMC, and probably if no-one else saw the need, there isn't one. I might have just extrapolate (spanglish?) from my own 'frustration'. I'm not worried about "defending" my proposal, it was just an idea I thought might make IMC more 'user-friendly' for those from no-listed areas and make them more visible at the same time, somthing worth discussing, and reading other people's opinions, I realise some of the problems with it. My main concern is if 'other regions' was only going to be a couple of towns (exeter and bath lets say) maybe it would be not very dynamic, and not updated very often, but maybe it would, oh well, i don't know!.

Well, I've gone on too long, sorry. It was just an ideas and I have not problem with discarding it if it's not a good one, I intend to have other really brilliant ones ; )

salud,
sara.
