Hello everybody..
just a few words on the magical mystery tour planning...
we will have a new meeting only after next week because people are all
busy or away...so it is important we communicate online for a while
I shall give you a brief update of where we're at...
Plan so far...
we will be meeting on the 15th October at 1pm at cathedral square and
then build groups of 10 to max. 20 people or so who will start on
different routes along the sites we have picked...after about two hours
all the groups will have done their tour and get together in the peace
gardens for a finish involving a "birthday slash funeral" party in
celebration of 100 years of immigration controls in UK and their
subsequent funeral...for this will probably use a big black coffin
that will be sent sif feet under...
the sites are picked, there are many of them, and every stop of the
tour will involve a talk about the specific site and how it qualifies
as a site of exclusion and invisible border....
Support/Tourguides
we got support from samba in sheffield, trolly'd soundsystem and
geisha-artists from Nottingham so far when it somes to artist...we can
do with more...clowns, musicians and tourguides...
please consider being a tourguide...
Also it would be great to have political engaged asylum-seekers,
migrants who are up for being tourguides as they are obviously most
aware of the invisible borders we like to expose with the tour.
The role of the tourguides is to tell people attenting the tour about
the sites we visit, feed in genereal info about the UK and european
border regimes...we will have at least two guides per tour who should
be able to navigate their group through Shefffield city centre and
have the information and are willing and able to talk about it...
as we do not know how many people will show up, we can't really say how
many tour guides we need.
Given that dissent and filmfest is in town and that we will have
hopefully some media coverage, I'd like to be optimistic and plan for
50 to 100 people showing up for the tour...this means we need at least
10 tourguides...
The tourguide role should be performed, but it is up to every tourguide
to play around the theme...it can be a very serious, down to earth
tourguide or a rather parodistic type...idealy in every group two
extremes would get together...
additionally every tour group could do with musicians, clowns, etc who
play some music, make fun while the tour is walking between the
sites...
please spread the word about this so people get invloved...
Map
We are concieving a map of sheffield city centre that will give the
basic information to all people participating but also interested
bystanders...it will be looking like a city tourist map and expose the
sites of exclusion...it will also talk about the politics of noborders,
the 100 years of immigration control and the detention centres in a
more general sense...This map is in production...and we will hopefully
have a draft of it by next week...
the map will work on its own and can be used afterwards as a spoof (for
example in sheffield tourist office)...
Next Meeting
the next meeting will be after the Bolton demo (1st October) and
anouced that day after we met at the demo and decided a date..
