Hello all,
Below the mail I sent to the site, have to say I have concerns about
the idea, as far as I can see the centre collapsed because the model
was daft, the 20 million has been lost and someone needs to pick it up.
Given the time it was left mostly unnoccupied it seems to have been an
open sale. In general the preservation of the cultural life of
Sheffield is a much bigger question than the NCPM and Hallam uni, it is
about Yorkshire forward, Shef one and the council. It is about the many
properties which are low rent, low cost and allow a independant
cultural community to develop in the city centre which will fall
beneath the wheels of a uniform big business led centre. Course it
could be said I'm biased cos I work there but anyways, over to me...

Hello, read with interest your site. "The BBC have questioned Hallam on
the validity of the sale, including the 20 million (est.) it cost to
build and the 1.4 million they bought it for". My question is that why
is this Hallams fault? The NCPM fell flat on it's arse as far as it's
original use. A way forward would be to ensure the use of the DRUM for
Sheffield Live and other activities and to rescue some of the local
music mandate back. For me the main people to rage against would be
Yorkshire Forward and Sheffield Council, both of whom are busy taking
money from whoever has a bit of cash and wrecking the character of
Sheffield (the exit of Brown St and entrance of Spearmint Rhino being a
case in point - that was open bribary). There are many spaces
throughout the centre which are used for music and many spaces which
could be, the responsiblilty lies with the council and the people of
Sheffield, not Hallam because if it isn't them it's going to be someone
else as bad if not worse.
