Excellent post on the situation, with only one matter that i would recommend you stress more in your otherwise comprehensive literature;

You mention a number of times that life will be impossible with "the card"; that we will not be allowed to function fully with "the card"....this is all true of course, but that is not the full story.

As i'm sure you know, the card itself is a very minor part of the so called "Identity Card Bill", the real power being contained in the provisions for the NIR and Biometric identifiers.

These biometric identifiers are the real object of the Bill, for, once they are entered into the NIR, the ID card is not needed, since, as you rightly say elsewhere, mobile and location specific fingerprinting/iris scanning technology will allow on the spot scanning.

Make no mistake, this IS what is intended - a country (a world infact) where each and every one of us is going about our business scanning our fingerprints for each and every transaction of the day.

You need only look at the banking industry getting behind the need for better proof of identity in order to fight the so called "threat of identity theft" - for just one example there are billboards on many road sides round my area which are making out this to be a major problem.

I find the coincidence between this and the governments push for biometric ID uncanny.

In short, do not allow the government to distract from the main point of their plans by following them in complaining about the "ID card", because, by Minsiters own admissions to me in person, the card is just a sideline; direct biometric scanning at all points of use is the goal.

On another point, have you heard any more on the rumour that the ID bill may be dropped untill after the election?

I suspect it will make a return no matter who ends up back in number 10, but still, there is a momentary pause.

Best regards, and keep up the good work,

james (sheffield)
