If you're the type of person who DOESN'T consider TV to be the dark and sinister tool of the oppressor, then you'll be aware that by sifting through the TV guide each week there's plenty of educational and often inspirational viewing to be found in amongst the dumbed-down shit...

Set your videos tonite (Monday) 9.30pm BBC2 for Guerilla: The Taking of Patty Hearst

This 90min documentary about a disturbed band of college-educated radicals who are obviously hung up about their slighty bourgeois existences is actually starting a week's screening at the ever-so-bourgeois Showroom on Friday so save all the bother and watch it tonite. And then after Newsnight there's a film about Stalin's love child, if you're interested...

The Symbionese Liberation Army kidnapped Patty Hearst on Feb 23rd 1974. The original ransom of $2 million spent on food for the poor was met by her father. She was not freed and after almost a month of captivity, her parents appeared on television begging for their daughters release, "Patty we kind of missed you on your birthday", her father said.

On April 15th 1974 Patty Hearst was seen in a bank holding a gun, helping the Symbionese Liberation Army in asuccessful robbery. She sent a taped message to her parents declaring she had joined the war for the oppressed people of the world.

Patty Hearst was arrested in San Francisco on September 27th 1975 and found guilty of helping the SLA in a bank heist. The jury is not sympathetic to her claim that she was brainwashed.
